TO ALL YFT MEMBERS: Tier 5 is starting as of Jan. 1, 2010. Tell everyone you know who may benefit from this (new teachers, subs, t.a.'s and student teachers). If you are not in the retirement system but are subbing now you can become part of the more generous Tier 4. You must file a notarized membership application completed by you and the District. Download form: http://www.nystrs.org/main/forms/retirement.htm Membership will begin on the date of the application. One day is enough to "lock" in Tier 4 but in order to receive service credit you must substitute for 20 days.You have this week! Student Teachers, go down to central office and fill out the paperwork for subbing immediately. You must file a notarized membership application completed by you and the District ON your first day of substitute service. You have time to sub one day before Jan. 1st. Building Reps: Please send members of your TIC, with copies of this email, to every new teacher, sub, T.A. and student teacher in your building to inform them of this urgent situation.
